Art Education at Cnoc Mhuire Home School
Alongside my art practice, I work part-time as an art teacher with the Cnoc Mhuire Classical Co-op in Knock, County Mayo, where I teach art to a wonderful group of children aged 5 to 11 and recently a group of 15-17 . Our sessions focus on creativity, play, and introducing key artistic concepts through hands-on projects. Below, you’ll find a selection of artworks and activities from both groups that we’ve explored together over the last while.

5 - 11 Group
Here is a selection of recent projects completed with the children at Cnoc Mhuire Classical Co-op. These activities are designed to nurture creativity while introducing key artistic techniques and cultural themes.
Our sessions included clay modelling, where students created figurines and miniature houses, and traditional crafts such as Celtic knot designs and St. Brigid’s crosses, tying art into Irish heritage. We also explored coffe painting to help understand watercolour painting and pointillism, inspired by the work of Georges Seurat, where students experimented with colour and pattern through dot painting techniques.
Each project encouraged fine motor skills, personal expression, and an appreciation for both historical and contemporary art.
15-17 group
Over the last few weeks we have looked at still life and focusing on different ways we can add tones to our objects. Looking at a wide range of objects and shapes and different guides on composition and proportion, the students completed their first month with a final still life piece
